Taking online payments in Jersey
Who takes Jersey businesses and who does not, the fees, getting paid into a Jersey bank, and GST.
See the templatesThe short answer: SumUp and PayPal both take Jersey businesses. SumUp is what we use ourselves and what we recommend first: a card reader for the counter, payment links and invoices for deposits, and an online store if you want one. Stripe, the provider most UK shops use, does not take businesses based in Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man as of October 2026. Check any provider's own country list before you build around it.
Who takes you
| Provider | Jersey business | Online fee, roughly |
|---|---|---|
| SumUp | Yes, our first choice | 2.5 percent plus 20p |
| PayPal | Yes | About 2.9 percent plus 30p |
| Stripe | Not currently | |
| Shopify Payments | Not in Jersey; Shopify works with PayPal instead |
Do not use a UK address to get round it
Some platforms suggest Jersey businesses enter a UK address and bank account. That is misrepresenting where the business is, and it can go wrong with the bank, with tax and with the provider's checks. Use a provider that takes Jersey.
Getting paid into a Jersey bank
SumUp and PayPal both pay out to Jersey bank accounts. Set the business address as Jersey when you open the account, and have your business registration ready for the checks.
GST on the site
If you are registered for GST, prices should include it and say so. If you are not, say prices are GST free. UK customers buying from Jersey may face UK VAT on import above the threshold, which is worth a line on the delivery page.
Our Jersey shops
For taking payments in the shop and by link, SumUp. For a shop built on our template the checkout runs through PayPal, which also takes Jersey businesses, with Jersey legal starters for the terms page. £99 then £20 a month.
Provider availability and fees checked on 9 October 2026 and change; confirm on the provider's own page.
