How much does website hosting cost in the UK?
Shared, managed WordPress, VPS and what is bundled elsewhere. What a small site actually needs.
See the templatesThe short answer: a small business site needs hosting that costs £3 to £10 a month. Anything more is either a bigger site than you have, or hosting bundled with other things such as a builder or a care plan, which is where most of the £20 to £100 a month figures come from.
The kinds
| Kind | UK price | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Shared hosting | £3 to £10 a month | Almost every small business site |
| Managed WordPress | £15 to £30 a month | WordPress sites that need updates done for them |
| VPS, your own server | £5 to £40 a month | People who know how to run one |
| Builder plan | £16 to £17 a month | Hosting plus the editor |
| Designer's care plan | £30 to £100 a month | Hosting plus changes and someone to ring |
What you are really paying for
At the cheap end, a slice of a server. At the expensive end, a person. A £60 a month care plan is £5 of hosting and £55 of someone being responsible for your site.
Our £20 a month
Hosting on our own server, the domain renewal, backups, the padlock, and small changes done for you when you ask. If you want to run your own hosting instead, we will hand over the files.
