.co.uk, .uk, .com and .scot prices, why first year offers mislead, and where to buy.

By Charlie B, Deliberate Design.

The short answer: a .co.uk costs about £6 to £10 a year, a .com about £10 to £15, and a .scot or .je a little more. Watch the renewal price, not the first year price.

Typical yearly prices

EndingYearly, roughly
.co.uk£6 to £10
.uk£6 to £10
.com£10 to £15
.scot£20 to £40
.je£40 to £50

First year offers

A 99p .com is a 99p .com for one year. Year two is the full price, and sometimes higher than elsewhere. Check the renewal line.

Premium domains

Short or common names are sometimes "premium", meaning someone owns them and is asking hundreds or thousands. You do not need one. yourbusinessglasgow.co.uk works as well as yourbusiness.com and costs a tenner.

Where to buy

Any registrar. The important thing is the name on the registration is yours, the renewal is on a card you control, and you have the login. With our plans the .co.uk is included and registered in your name.
