How good is Wix for SEO?
Yes, a Wix site can rank. What it does well and badly, and what matters more than the builder.
See the templatesThe short answer: fine. Wix sites rank on Google. The old reputation that they could not is years out of date. Where Wix falls short is speed on phones and the amount of code behind each page, and those cost you a little. What costs you far more is what is on the page.
What Wix does well
- Titles, descriptions and headings are all editable
- It makes a sitemap and the padlock for you
- Pages work on a phone without effort
What it does badly
- Speed. A Wix page carries a lot of code, and Google measures speed
- You cannot tidy that code. On a plain site you can
The four things that matter more
- A Google Business Profile with your address, hours and photos. For a local business this is most of the battle
- The words. If the page does not say "plumber" and "Paisley", it will not rank for plumber Paisley
- A page title that says what you do and where
- Reviews on Google, and your web address on everything you send out
Our take
Our template sites are plain pages with no builder running on them, so they load fast and the code is clean, and every template comes with the title, description and structured data done. But we would not tell a business to leave Wix for that alone. Do the four things first.
