Can I move my website from Wix to another host?
What moves, what does not, the steps, and how not to lose your email or ranking.
See the templatesThe short answer: yes, with one catch. Wix lets you move your domain name and lets you copy your words and photos out, but it does not export the pages. The new site is a rebuild, not a transfer. That is less work than it sounds, because a small business site is usually one or two pages.
What you can take
- Your domain, if it is registered in your name. Wix unlocks it and gives you a transfer code
- Your words: copy them out of the editor
- Your photos: download them from the media library
- Your email, if it is through Google Workspace: that stays with Google, not Wix
What you cannot
The pages, the layout and anything built with Wix apps. The new host rebuilds the site from your content.
The steps, in order
- Build the new site somewhere else while Wix is still live
- Check it on a phone, test the contact form
- Point the domain at the new host. This is a setting change, and the site switches over within hours
- Keep the old page addresses the same where you can, so Google links still work
- Cancel Wix after the switch, not before
Email trap
If your email runs through your domain, write down the mail settings before changing anything. The new host needs to carry them across or your email stops. We do this as part of every move.
See it before you move. Paste your current web address into our importer and we fill a template with your name, words and photos. Nothing is stored and it costs nothing to look.
