Can I move my shop off Shopify?
Exporting products and customers, what you lose, moving the domain, and when a smaller shop makes sense.
See the templatesThe short answer: yes. Products, customers and orders all export as spreadsheets, the domain moves if it is in your name, and the shop is rebuilt elsewhere. What you lose is the apps and the theme. For a shop with a few dozen products that is not much.
What exports
- Products with photos, prices, options and stock, as a CSV
- Customers, as a CSV
- Orders, as a CSV, for your records
- The domain, after unlocking it
What does not
The theme, app data such as reviews unless the app exports, gift card balances, and your Shopify Payments account. Card payments on the new shop go through your own Stripe account at 1.9% + 20p per sale.
Order of work
- Export the products and build the new shop while Shopify stays live
- Connect your Stripe account and take a test order
- Point the domain at the new shop
- Keep product addresses the same where you can, or redirect them
- Close the Shopify plan after the switch, not before, and download the last orders first
When a smaller shop makes sense
If you are paying £30 a month plus apps for a shop that sells thirty things, a shop of your own at £20 a month with card payments at 1.9% + 20p does the same job. Our shop template imports a Shopify CSV in one go.

See it before you move. Paste your current web address into our importer and we fill a template with your name, words and photos. Nothing is stored and it costs nothing to look.
